Dr Andy CurtisI received a teaching degree (BEd) from Sunderland University, UK in 1991, and a Postgraduate Diploma in TESOL from Sheffield Hallam University, UK, also in 1991. In 1992, I completed an MA in Applied Linguistics and in 1996 a PhD in International Education, both from the University of York, UK. For two years, from 1998 to 2000, I was the program manager for a new graduate level EAP program offered by the Department of English at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, where I received the Award for Excellence in Teaching in 1999. From 2001-2002, I was a visiting associate professor in the Department of Language Teacher Education at the School for International Training in Vermont, where I developed and presented new courses on curriculum design and on educational technology. From 2002 to 2006, I was the Executive Director of the School of English at Queen’s University in Ontario, Canada where I managed and led a staff of up to 40 fulltime and part-time teachers and administrative support staff working with up to 1,000 international students from 50 countries. In 2006, I co-edited Colour, Race and English Language Teaching: Shades of meaning (2006) with Mary Romney, and in 2004, I co-edited Washback in Language Testing: Research contexts and methods with Liying Cheng and Josh Watanabe. In 2002, I co-authored with Kathi Bailey and David Nunan Pursuing Professional Development: The Self as Source. I have published 60 book chapters, papers in refereed journals and articles in professional publications, as well as conference proceedings.
